Your Name Here

There’s still plenty of work to do! So many stories to tell. And each one takes months to plan, schedule, write, research, edit, draw…you get the point.

These Portraits are a conversation. One that isn’t a screaming match between “both sides” or another story we’ve already heard before or just more rhetoric from talking heads.

And I need your help to keep them going.

Every dollar counts. Consider making a contribution here.

Don’t have money to give? You can still help—a lot! If you haven’t already subscribed, please do. Also, share these stories with your friends and family. You can also help me make these stories better. Have ideas on who I could interview? That would be awesome! Of course, I retain all editorial control and independence, but a tip can certainly lessen my workload.

How portraits is funded

To keep this work free and accessible, Portraits depends on readers like you. As you can see, most of my funding—at least 90 percent of it—comes from individuals. And much of that is in small, one-time donations, although monthly subscriptions have proved the most sustainable.

The sponsors you see are usually small businesses. I’ve tried to keep my sponsorship levels straightforward and reasonable, so that reaching thoughtful, conscientious readers like you does not become a barrier to feeding their own families, or following a passion, or just working to fill a need.

People first

I am so thankful for your sponsorships, your contributions, your subscriptions, and your readership.

I can’t say it enough: I can’t do this without you.

When I write these Portraits, anytime I find myself getting stuck or losing my way, I keep bringing myself back—to the person I’m writing about. Not the rhetoric. Not the “news.” Not even the story I wish I could tell.

And when I was thinking about my values, this kept coming up, too.

It’s central to what I do. I may not have a huge readership or email list, and I’m okay with that. I want to know who’s reading. I want to know these stories are making an impact. I want to know that the people supporting this work aren’t some anonymous billionaire CEOs. (Not that that would happen anyway.)

So, thank you.

about me

This is my full-time job. Well, full-time in the sense that I’m almost always working on or thinking about these Portraits. But I’m also a mother, so my schedule is very limited, as well as a household/homework/family calendar/all-the-things manager (which is a whole job times two in itself).

I do plan to keep doing this for as long as I can. Yes, it’s a bit of a passion project, but I didn’t do this just to talk to people I already know and love or get to draw pictures all day.

I started these Portraits because I wanted to have the difficult conversations no one else is having.

To listen to people about what’s really happening in their lives.

To find a common thread.

To have a civil discourse.

To bear witness to people’s experiences.

To deepen my own understanding of things.

To share what I’ve learned.

And maybe even help improve people’s lives.

So if you find these Portraits valuable, entertaining, interesting, educational, awe-inspiring in any way, or if you just like the drawings, please help keep it going by contributing.

A quick note on sponsors

(Sponsors have no say in my editorial decisions, and I have the right to refuse a sponsor. I also have the right to take their money and then write a scathingly true portrait of their CEO. Kinda like Robin Hood. 🙂 Just warning ya. …Actually, I may have to double-check the legalities of that one, but pretty sure.)

If you’re interested in becoming a sponsor, or know someone who might, send me an email: contact@peggyperdue.com.
